Despite her dominant victory in the Wimbledon final on Saturday, Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek didn't have anything positive to say. After her historic triumph, the Pole criticized the media in her country.
For this, she chose the moment when all the attention was on her.
"I hope they will just leave me alone and let me do my job. You see what we are doing," the 24-year-old said while speaking about criticism from Polish journalists and media in recent months.
The extraordinary talent had not won a tournament in more than a year. And from the first place in the world rankings, she fell to eighth place. With the triumph at Wimbledon, she made an impressive comeback.
On Saturday, Swiatek won the final against Amanda Anisimova with an incredible score of 6:0, 6:0. In the open era of tennis, this is the first time a Wimbledon final has ended with this score. Wimbledon is considered the main Grand Slam of tennis. Anisimova is of Russian origin, while competing for the United States.

The way Swiatek has been treated by the Polish media in recent months "wasn't really nice," she said. She has already "proved that I can do a lot," the six-time Grand Slam winner said.
"I know people always want more. But it's my process, my life and my career," Swiatek was clear. She hopes the media will offer her the freedom "to do my job the way I want to."
Things are going well for now. After four Roland Garros titles and a US Open title, Swiatek now has Grand Slam titles at all three levels of tennis. She is the youngest player to achieve this since Serena Williams in 2002.
