Johnson wins gold in downhill at the World Ski Championships

Breezy Johnson

American skier Breezy Johnson has won the gold medal in the downhill race at the World Championships being held in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria.

Johnson finished the race 0.15 seconds ahead of silver medalist Mirjam Punchner of Austria.

Czech skier Ester Ledecka finished third and won the bronze medal, after finishing the race 0.21 seconds behind.

Another American and one of the best skiers in history, Lindsey Vonn, took 15th place. She finished the race 1.96 seconds behind.

Vonn retired in 2019 after winning the bronze medal in the downhill at Are, Sweden, after suffering multiple injuries.

But he returned to competition this season after undergoing knee surgery.

For Johnson, it is the first medal won at a major event, just two months after returning from a 14-month ban for breaking three anti-doping rules.
