Norwegian athlete Jakob Ingebrigtsen has broken the world record in 3000 meters running, a record that had stood since 1996.
Ingebrigtsen on Sunday at the Diamond Leagues meeting in Silesia ran 7:17.55 minutes, breaking the record set by Kenyan Daniel Komen (7:20:67) in Rieti, Italy in 1996.
At the same time, Ingebrigtsen has improved his personal record in the 3000 meters run by nearly six seconds.
