The Judo World Championship began on Thursday in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. On the first day, the judokas in the category up to 48 kilograms and the judokas in the category up to 60 kilograms held competitions. The two gold medals were won by the Japanese.
Natsumi Tsunoda won gold in the category up to 48 kg. She defeated the German Katharina Menz in the final. Bronze medals were won by Assunta Scutto of Italy and Abiba Abuzhakynova of Kazakhstan. Japan's Naohisa Takato won gold in the up to 60 kg judoka category. Judokas from Mongolia, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei won the other medals.
Kosovo will also appear in the World Cup, with four judokas. Distria Krasniqi competes on Friday, seeking success in the category up to 52 kilograms.
Distria in the first round is free, while in the second he meets Lin Hsuan Hsu of Chinese Taipei. Flaka Loxha, Laura Fazliu and Loriana Kuka are the other participating judokas from Kosovo.
