Blerim Xhemaili is on the right way to win the title of Swiss champion with Zurich. The 35-year-old could have ended his career as a champion, but decided to still play. On Thursday, Xhemaili extended his contract with Zuerich for another year, the team with which he has already won two championship titles. The midfielder from Tetova will play for Zuerich at least until June 30, 2023.
Zuerichu leads the Swiss Super League with 63 points, a full 12 more than first-placed Basel.
Xhemaili has played in 20 of the 28 matches of this edition and is considered very important for the team where he was formed as a player.
At the beginning of his career, he played 135 competitive games with Zurich, while winning the title of champion in 2006 and 2007. He then played for Bolton Wanderers in England and for Serie A teams such as Torino, Parma, Napoli, Genoa and Bologna. He also played for Galatasaray in Turkey, Montreal Impact in Canada and Shenzhen in China. He has played 69 matches for Switzerland, and has also appeared in major events.
He returned to Zuerichu in December 2020, and since then he has played 32 matches.
"With his personality and experience as well as his role as a leader player, Blerimi is an important part of our team. We look forward to continuing the successful cooperation", said Marinko Jurendiq, sports director of Zuerich.
