The athletes are not expected to benefit from the promised five million

The Emergency Fiscal Package of the Government of Kosovo, published on March 30, included "Increasing the budget for grants and subsidies for the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports to avoid the situation created by the public health emergency in sports activities and culture, worth five million euros".

Sportsmen have expected a lot from this decision and continue to hope, reports Koha.net. But until now there has been no announcement from MKRS regarding this fund, while it is already said that that fund will not be allocated at all. Thus, sports clubs and federations are not expected to benefit from that promised fund.

This was announced by the Kosovo Olympic Committee on Thursday, after a video conference held with the leaders of sports federations and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

"The Director of the Sports Department at MKRS, Ibër Alaj, explained that the fiscal package proposed by the Government in office is unlikely to be realized as we are in a period where legal actions limit us and that the decision on this should be taken in the Assembly of Kosovo ", KOK announced.

"According to director Alaj, there is no additional budget in MKRS for allocation of additional funds during the pandemic and that MKRS is working with the budget it has to help the federations according to the signed memorandums. Some of the federations told about the pressures being put on them by the clubs for the fiscal package, for which they asked MKRS to come out with clarifications", the announcement states.

Koha.net has learned that the leaders of the federations have received the statement of Ibër Alaj hard. In the federations, great pressure is being exerted by the clubs regarding any financial support. Clubs in most sports are on the verge of collapse, while apart from football clubs, other clubs have not had support from the base, namely from the federations. Much is expected of the five-million fund. Most federations depend only on the state budget.
