Striker Son Heung-min apologized after South Korea was eliminated from the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
South Korea was beaten 4:1 by Brazil in the round of 1, while Son said he regretted the team's early exit from the Qatar tournament. The South Korean captain was powerless against Brazil, while in four World Cup matches he did not score a single goal.
"I can only apologize to our fans that we failed to live up to their expectations. We did our best, but all the teams were very strong. We fought with pride and worked hard to get through the group stage," Son said on Tuesday.
He added that he hopes the fans have understood that all the players tried to give their all in Qatar.
Meanwhile, Son also spoke about the departure of coach Paulo Bento, for whom he had praise, and said that he is very sorry for his decision.
