Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has denied allegations of rape after a Brazilian woman reported him to Sao Paulo police.
Police in Brazil have confirmed that there was a complaint against Neymar, but declined to provide more details about the case, which was filed on May 31.
Brazilian media outlet UOL reported that it is a rape allegation and added that the police report was being kept secret.
The player's father said on Saturday that his son's messages with the woman who accused Neymar will be released to prove the Brazilian's innocence. "I know that my son can be accused of many things, but I know what kind of man he is, the son of a father and a mother. We want justice to come out as soon as possible", he said.
According to reports in Brazil, Neymar had paid the woman to meet him in Paris. The 27-year-old said that he had met the accuser at the hotel, but categorically denied the statements about rape.
"I am being accused of rape", he said in a video published on Instagram on Sunday morning. "It is a heavy word, a heavy thing, but this is happening now. I am surprised. It was very bad, very heavy to hear that. You know my character, you know what I'm saying, you know that I would never do something like that."
The player has said that he will respond to every accusation and has published every message, even an intimate one, to prove his innocence. He has shown that the talks started in March and continued on May 15. In the displayed messages, it can be seen that she was looking for the former Barcelona star at the hotel on May 16. The anonymous woman had returned to Sao Paulo on May 17 before reporting the case to the police on May 31.
"What happened that day was a relationship between a man and a woman, within four walls. Something that happens to every couple, and the next day nothing", said Neymar, who added that the woman had asked him for a souvenir for her son. He has shown that he is now surprised about the case.
Even Neymar's team has denied the accusations and said that the player's lawyers have been notified.
Neymar is currently in Brazil getting ready for the Copa America in June and July.
