Kosovo's biggest hopes for a medal at the European Games were in boxing. The boxing competition at the European Games, which ended on Sunday, was of great value. It has also served to win the norm for the "Paris 2024" Olympic Games.
The boxers of Kosovo did not win a medal, nor did they win a standard for the next Olympics. The most successful was Donjeta Sadiku who scored two victories. She lost the duel for bronze medals and for the Olympic standard.
Shpejtim Bajoku scored a victory, while Bashkim Bajoku, Patriot Behrami, Taulant Jakupi, Altin Shala and Shpejtim Shabani stopped in the first matches.
"I hoped for a medal from Donjeta and the Bajoku brothers", says Latif Demolli, secretary general of the Kosovo Boxing Federation.
He says that the three boxers, Jakupi, Shala and Shabani, lacked international experience.

For the Olympic norm, Sadiku and Bajoku must pass the world champions
"In Kosovo and in the region, there is no competition in heavyweights. And these boys are not having enough matches", added Demolli.
He estimates that Donjeta performed well in the first two matches and that she was better than the French Estelle Mossely, from whom she lost in the quarterfinals.
"Donjeta has two more qualifying tournaments for the Olympics, in March and May next year. We believe that it will win the rate for Paris without any problem", added Demolli.
Even for Shpejtim Bajoku, Demolli says that he deserved the victory over the boxer from Turkey, but that the judges have assessed differently.
For Bashkim Bajoku, he says that he was unlucky in the lottery, as in the first match he faced the European champion, the boxer of France, Billal Bennama. Bennama eventually won gold at the European Games as well.

Donjeta remains without a medal, but there are other opportunities for the Olympic standard
"Even for these boxers there is hope in the next two tournaments, qualifiers for the Olympics. The tournaments are held in March and May next year. I believe that selector Besim Brahimi will filter the boxers and select only the best who have a chance to win the Olympic standard. We will dedicate ourselves to preparations and international camps so that our boxers can spar with international boxers", Demolli emphasized.
In other sports, Kosovo has not come close to medals. But even in boxing, only Donjeta Sadiku came close to the medal.
