Erion Kajtazi, the young footballer of Trepça '89 and Kosovo U17, died on Saturday on the field of play after a cardiac arrest, the Prizren Hospital Emergency and the Kosovo Football Federation have confirmed.
Kajtazi was playing in the junior match between Trepça '89 and A&N, a match that took place in Korishë, Prizren, when he fell to the ground unconscious.
"The medical staffs of both clubs intervened quickly to offer him help and then urgently sent him to the Regional Hospital in Prizren. However, despite the best efforts of the doctors, Erion did not show any signs of life and his death was confirmed from a heart attack", says the FFK announcement, which expressed condolences to the young man's family.
Meanwhile, according to the doctor in charge of the Prizren Emergency, Hekuran Veçgishti, the efforts of the medical staff to revive the talent of the Mitrovica club were impossible.
"Around 13:30 p.m., the player arrived at the Emergency without signs of life. Despite the fact that we made all efforts to bring him back to life, it was impossible," Veçgishti told KOHEN.
Such cases are rare in Kosovo football.
