The Mediterranean Games also end for Bajok and Jakupi

The Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, have also closed for the other two boxers who represented Kosovo, Bashkim Bajoku and Taulant Jakupi. 

Bajoku and Jakupi lost their matches on Sunday. Shpëtim Bajoku and Lumturim Xhoxhaj were also eliminated on Saturday. 

Bashkim Bajoku lost to Italian Tommaso Sciacca on points, 3:2, on Sunday. 

25-year-old Bajoku competed in the 55 kilogram category. 

Meanwhile, Taulant Jakupi was defeated by Spanish boxer Pablo Coy Bernal in the afternoon.

The Spaniard was significantly better and won by a split decision. 

One minute and 30 seconds into the second round, Bernal took the initiative and the referee stepped in. He then assessed that Jakupi could not continue the fight and the victory went to the 26-year-old boxer. 

21-year-old Jakupi competed in the up to 80 kilogram category. 

Hopes for a medal at "Taranto 2026" remain with Donjeta Sadiku. The best boxer in Kosovo competes on Monday from 18:15. In the first bout of the up to 60 kilogram category, Sadiku faces the Turkish Esmanur Lok.

LM – heavy loss for wrestler Johnny

Kosovo wrestler, Egzon Xhoni, suffered a loss in his first match at the Mediterranean Games.

In Taranto, Italy, on Sunday morning, Johnny lost 11:2 to the very qualified competitor, Islam Dudaev. 

Dudaev is from Dagestan, Russia, but has been competing successfully for Albania since 2022. He is the winner of the Olympic bronze medal in "Paris 2024" and European champion.

Against Dudavi, Xhoni had no chance in the 74-kilogram freestyle category. The fight was a round of 16.

Taekwondoists finish the competition, six Kosovars no wins

The taekwondo competitions for Kosovo at the "Taranto 2026" Mediterranean Games have concluded.

On Sunday, three Kosovo taekwondo athletes took to the arena. And all three suffered defeats with the maximum score, 2:0.

Initially, Resa Gashi lost to Spaniard Helena Garcia Suarez in the round of 16 in the 67 kilogram category.

Jon Gashi also had a Spanish opponent. He lost 2:0 to Mikel Fernandez Garcia in the first round, respectively in the round of 16 in the up to 80 kilogram category. 

Bled Tufa also suffered the same fate in his first fight in the +80 kilogram category. He lost to Croatian Ivan Shapina.

Even harder for Kosovo was Saturday, the first day of the taekwondo competition. Bleron Ademi lost 2:0 to Josip Teskera of Croatia in the 58 kilogram category.

Meanwhile, two other competitors lost to Serbian taekwondo fighters. Rona Gashi suffered from Jana Lukic in the 57 kilogram category, while Elion Agushi from Zharko Krajisnik. Elion Agushi competed in the 68 kilogram category. 

Although not very competitive, Kosovar taekwondo competitors leave Taranto without leaving any trace.

Mediterranean games

Kosovo swimmers continued their competition at the Mediterranean Games on Sunday. 

On Sunday morning in Taranto, Italy, Hana Beiqi and Erina Idrizaj competed in the 50-meter backstroke qualifying event. Hana had a time of 30.31 seconds, while Erina had a time of 30.88 seconds. They were last in the first heat.

Overall, they were in 12th and 13th place out of 15 swimmers in the event. Albania's Luna Djarmati was 14th, while a Lebanese woman was 15th. 

Kosovar swimmers did not qualify further, namely in the final race. Swimmers who had a time under 30 seconds advanced to the final.

Riga Shala competed in the 200-meter freestyle. She was 15th, or last, of the swimmers who competed. Her time was 2 minutes, 19 seconds and 13 hundredths.
