Kosovo wins a gold and a bronze in the U-20 Balkan Championship

The champion of Kosovo in the shot put, Muhamet Ramadani, has once again decently represented Kosovo in competitions abroad. The Mitrovica club athlete won the gold medal in athletics at the U20 Balkan Championship in Turkey on Saturday. The athlete of the Trepça club, Alaudin Suma, also won a medal. Suma won the bronze medal in the discus throw on Sunday, to successfully close the participation in the competition in Turkey.

Only Ramadani and Suma managed to return to Kosovo with medals from Istanbul, Turkey, where the Balkan U20 Athletics Championship took place.

In addition to them, Kosovo was represented by ten other athletes, who competed in short and long distance runs.

For Ramadan, it is a repetition of the success achieved at the beginning of this year.

In Istanbul, he was declared champion in the 6-kilogram shot put. This time, Ramadani threw the heavy 6-kilogram shot at a distance of 18 meters and 85 centimeters.

"It is the fifth medal, where four of them are gold and one bronze. The result was good, but it could have been even better," Ramdani told KOHEN.

He added that this was not the best he could give of himself. He says that the pandemic has influenced that the level of preparations is not one of the best.

"The pandemic has greatly affected the level of preparation. We haven't been able to train much, but now I hope to prepare for the next competitions", underlined Ramadani.

Ramadan has managed to be a multiple champion of Kosovo in his own discipline, in shot put.

But he adds that he has even bigger goals in his career.

"Of course I can achieve even more success and that I will not stop working to achieve such a thing. The goals now for 2021 are to achieve success in both Balkan championships. We will have a European one and a world one", concluded Ramadani.

Alaudin Suma also won the first medal in a Balkan youth championship. Suma won the bronze medal and said that she had even greater expectations for this competition. It was the first and only medal in international championships.

"It was the first medal in the Balkan Championship, but the expectation was very high. My preparation has been at the level, but the pandemic has affected a lot. I was probably able to achieve even more, a gold or silver medal", concluded Suma.

Suma threw the discus with a distance of 49 meters and 83 centimeters.

Ramadani and Suma are considered the great hope of the sport of athletics. Ramadani even won the gold medal at the European Youth Olympic Games in Baku.
