The Serbian tennis player, Novak Djokovic, has triumphed for the ninth time in his career at the "Australian Open" Grand Slam.
Number 1 in the world defeated Russian Daniil Medvedev 3:0 in sets (7:5, 6:2, 6:2) in the final.
For Djokovic, this was the 18th Grand Slam won during his career.
"I am eternally grateful to my team for all their support and energy. Love you so much. There's a lot of mixed emotions with what's happened in the last month with the tennis players coming to Australia, but I think when you look at it as a whole it's been a successful tournament. It has not been easy, but the organizers should be proud of the organization. Rod Laver Arena, I love you more and more every year. This love affair continues. Thank you very much", said Djokovic, who also congratulated his opponent in the final.
Only Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal have won more Grand Slams than Djokovic, with 20 each.
Medvedev praised Djokovic highly after his defeat in the final.
"It is not easy to talk when you lose in the Grand Slam final, but you will do your best! Congratulations Novak. Nine Grand Slams in Australia is remarkable and this won't be your last. I'll tell you a short story, I met Novak when I was ranked 500 or 600 in the world. I said ok, he won't talk to me as he is number one in the world. I was shy. He was talking to me as if we were friends. He has never changed - he has always been a great athlete and a great friend," said Medvedev.
