Legendary Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard says he will be watching closely to see if the Premier League punishes Manchester City for financial breaches.
City have been suspended from the Champions League for the next two seasons and fined €30m after a UEFA investigation revealed breaches of Financial Fair Play (FFP) by City.
City have denied the allegations and have warned they will appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). "I'm really interested in this," said Gerrard, who is now Rangers' coach. "UEFA has taken a very strong decision. I'm sure City will appeal, so let's see the result."
The Premier League has opened an investigation against City. City in the 2013-14 season had won the league by two points ahead of Liverpool. The captain of Liverpool at that time was Steven Gerrard. Gerrard was the tragic figure of Liverpool that season, having made a serious mistake in the match against Chelsea, when he slipped and gifted the winning goal to Chelsea. That loss also cost Liverpool the title.
If the Premier League takes action against City then Liverpool could be awarded the title. Liverpool fans have called for Gerrard to be awarded a champions medal if this happens.
