Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay has confirmed that he will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of the season, while criticizing the behavior of the club's leaders towards him.
The center back said that the club issued false letters about his requests to continue the contract.
"It is the first time in my career that I speak openly like this and it saddens me. When I say campaign, I mean that people in the club have tried to discredit me as a professional and as a person", the 33-year-old wrote on social networks. "All this started when information came out that I rejected an offer of 2.7 million euros per year and it is untrue. They said that I don't want him to stay at the club, which is also untrue. On July 2nd, I was offered a significantly smaller contract than what I currently have. In August, instabilities began to appear, such as the situation with coach Marcelino, so I waited until everything was over to discuss a contract renewal. On November 13, we reached a verbal agreement, but nothing in writing. In January I met with the club representatives and the conditions had changed. I still wanted to renew the contract, but on February 1, I injured my knee and had to have surgery. Some time later I asked again about renewing the contract, but was met with silence. From the beginning I wanted to cooperate and accept a reduction in salary, but the club wanted me to accept a bigger reduction since I was on medical leave. I have always wanted to stay at Valencia, but it is not up to me", wrote Garay on social networks.
He added that he will leave Mestalla in the summer.
"My farewell comes from the heart, as I believe that I am a good person and I think that you deserved to know the truth. I want to say that lies are easily believed, but fortunately the truth always comes out", added Garay.
Garay was among the Valencia players who were affected by COVID-19.
