In the Football Federation of Romania (FRF), they are afraid of the harsh punishment of UEFA, due to the display of the message "Kosovo is Serbia" in the match between Romania and Kosovo, played in the framework of the qualifications for "Euro 2024".
Romania won the match 2:0, but in the first half it was interrupted because of the message that the hooligans of the ultras group "Uniti sub tricolor" revealed.
The spokesman of the Romanian federation, Mohai Stoichita, has admitted that after the interruption of the match, it would come to its cancellation and Romania would lose it with the official result 3:0. However, after the match continued and ended with the victory of the Romanians, the federation is prepared for heavy fines and harsh punishment from UEFA. In fact, they are convinced that they will be punished because they will play the next two home games without the presence of fans.
Until the end of this elimination cycle, Romania will play four more matches, two of which will be played at home. With Andorra (October 15) and Switzerland (November 21), these matches close the qualifications.
Stoichita added that such messages do not belong in football stadiums and are not tolerated in any way by both UEFA and FIFA.
"You told those guys in the stands that we don't have a war, we don't have weapons, but a ball and different jerseys. We are opponents for 90 minutes, after which we will continue to respect each other. We are not at war with anyone. We live in a football democracy and not a political one. I am afraid that we will lose the match with the official result", said Stoichita. "With Andorra, it's a done deal and we won't play with the fans present. But we are expecting to play without fans even in the match against Switzerland. These punishments will surely be imposed by UEFA, which is very strict in its rules and does not allow political messages in stadiums."
