Australia has won the decisive match of Group E of the Basketball World Cup. Australia beat Japan 109-89 on Tuesday in Okinawa, Japan.
With two wins and one loss, Australia finished second in the group and advance to the second round. Japan was ranked third with one win and two losses and is playing for the ranking from positions 17 to 32. Germany has also advanced from this group, while Finland has been eliminated.
The Australians dominated from the start and did not allow themselves to be surprised by the World Cup hosts. Xavier Cooks led Australia with 24 points and 16 rebounds. Josh Giddey had 26 points and 11 assists. Joshua Hawkinson's 33 points didn't do the job for Japan.
The Dominican Republic defeated Angola 75:67 to win Group A.
Egypt beat Mexico with a score of 100:72, while France won against Lebanon with a score of 85:79. France, however, has been eliminated.
