The 2019/20 Euroleague and Eurocup basketball season will not end. The league leaders have ended the season after a meeting with the shareholders of the 11 licensed clubs: Real Madrid, Barcelona, Baskonia, Panathinaikos, Olympiacos, Fenerbahçe, Efes, CSKA Moscow, Maccabi, Armani Milano and Zalgiris Kaunas.
The president of the Euroleague, Jordi Bertomeu, has proposed the cancellation and the clubs have agreed without the need for a vote.
"After we have explored every option, the Executive Board has decided to cancel the 2019-20 EuroLeague and EuroCup season," the organizer announced.
The 2020/21 edition will start on October 1 and September 30, respectively.
"It was undoubtedly one of the most difficult decisions we have made in our 20-year history," said Bertomeu. "But, due to reasons beyond our control, we have been forced to cancel the most interesting and successful season in the history of European basketball."
The two highest levels of basketball in Europe have been suspended in mid-March due to the coronavirus.
