Kosovo U18 takes the big step towards the World Championship

The handball players of the U18 Representative of Kosovo have started the IHF Trophy Intercontinental competition with victory, defeating Uzbekistan. The race is a qualifier for the World Championship, while with the victory, on Thursday, Kosovo has taken a big step towards qualifying for the World Championship for young women, which will be held in China from August 14 to 25.

On Thursday, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Kosovo won with a score of 27:21. The new "Dardanet" won the first half with a score of 13:8, while in the second half Kosovo U18

went over ten goals.

"In the last minutes, the locals increased the pressure and brought the result closer to 27:21, but without jeopardizing our victory", writes the Handball Federation of Kosovo, on Thursday.

The head coach of Kosovo U18, Mitat Ferati, said that the victory achieved on Thursday has great value.

"This victory is of great value, not only for the girls, but for the entire handball family of Kosovo. We expect positive results from the next matches too, as we have come here to win all the matches. We worked hard for this competition, the girls have high quality, but we expect not to repeat the mistakes we made in the match against Uzbekistan. We expect to improve in the attack phase, as the defense was at the right level, especially in the first half, where we conceded only eight goals in 30 minutes. But, what I expect in the next matches is the improvement of efficiency in the attack", said Ferati for KOHE, on Thursday.

Sara Gjergjaj was declared the best player of the match. She scored four goals. Diona Dresh had six goals, while Arona Krasniqi had five. Arjeta Imeraj and Andra Uglani also had four goals each. All players contributed to the important victory.

Of the six participating representatives, two qualify for the World Cup. The two finalists qualify. Kosovo U18 hopes to be among them.

Kosovo U18 represents Europe in the IHF Intercontinental Trophy competition. Consequently, it is considered a favorite.

Guatemala is part of Group B along with Kosovo U18 and Uzbekistan.

Kosovo plays against Guatemala on Friday. On Wednesday, Uzbekistan defeated Guatemala with a score of 36:19.

The semi-finals are on Saturday, while the final is on Sunday. Our national team is aiming for first place and historic qualification in the World Cup.
