The mosque with an eagle in the minaret that served as an ambulance

In terms of appearance, the Remnik mosque is distinguished by the eagle placed on top of the minaret. The mosque, located in the center of the village, was built by the residents themselves.

It did not serve only as a religious object. During the 90s, a part of it was turned into an ambulance, where the "Mother Teresa" association treated residents who needed it.

"This mosque was built with the contribution of the residents themselves. The foundations of this mosque are placed on top of the old one. In this same mosque, the massacre of 1942 took place, and in 1996 a new one was built, which was conceived by the residents so that the upper part was used for religious rituals, while the ground floor was decided to serve as an ambulance for the needs of residents. The ambulance was called "Mother Teresa", says the resident of Remnik, Ramush Aliu.

He recalls that not only the residents of the village received medical services in this mosque, but also from the surrounding villages.

He says that the purpose of its construction was to treat the inhabitants who joined the war, in defense of the country.

"During the 90s, it is known that both education and health were self-financed. As for the association 'Mother Teresa', which is known to have been humanitarian, it has helped with its services here as well, but for the rest the whole village has contributed and it has served all localities, not only Remnik. This ambulance was also built to treat the locals who joined the fighters to defend the country", says Aliu.

At the Remnik Mosque in Viti, all treatments were performed, except for operations. Ali himself was treated there.

"All the treatments were performed here, except for the operations. Each time, there were two caretaker doctors who served the locals voluntarily", Aliu declares.

The eagle placed on the minaret and on the walls of the Mosque is proof of the patriotism of the people who built it and those who visit it, says Aliu.

"The mosque of this village was made special by the people who own this religious building. It was a piece of advice that apart from the religious aspect, they also looked at the patriotic aspect, who indicated that apart from belonging to the Islamic faith, first of all, they are Albanians. That's why they decided to have the eagle on top of the mosque and inside its space", says Aliu.

The pharmacy also operated in the space of this ambulance, where medicines were distributed free of charge.

Today this place has been replaced by a mortuary.
