The pensioner from Ferizaj is spending the hot summer in cool Brezovica

In the intense July heat that has engulfed the globe, Mrs. Maria Gjini Kurti has decided to escape by spending it in the coolness of the beautiful mountains of Brezovica.

For him, Brezovica has always been the place where he has found peace and other health benefits for 45 years.

"I am Maria Gjini Kurti from Ferizaj and Brezovica, I spend some time in Ferizaj and some time like today with great heat I come to Brezovica to my villa that I have had for 45 years, it is a pleasant atmosphere, I hear the chirping of birds, it is clean air and the best thing is the effect it has on red blood cells. Blood is essential for the human body and if you are okay with them, there is nothing better. In my youth I had problems with dizziness and based on a check-up they told me that my blood count was bad and I had to go somewhere in the mountains, at that time we did not have a villa but there we decided to build a villa in Brezovica", she emphasizes.

Retirement brought Mrs. Maria back to Brezovica for longer periods. She believes that every phase of life should be accepted and lived in peace, and this time, for her, is a break from a life full of activities.

"Brezovica has changed for the worse, it is filled with constructions, I don't know who gives permission for these, but Brezovica is not what it used to be, we must preserve nature and not destroy it, for a while after retirement I lived here summer and winter, and whenever I can I come back here, I enjoy and accept every period, the same was the case during retirement, although I was very active, but I realized that it was time to take a break," she declares.

Even at an advanced age, Mrs. Maria has never been separated from reading. She starts her mornings in Brezovica with a book in her hand or by completing crossword puzzles.

"I organize my time, I don't get bored at all, here I take care of my garden, with flowers and a yard, I had two neighbors but they passed away, we were constantly hanging out, and now I'm the type to do something so I don't waste my time, I work at home, and I spend most of my time reading and completing crossword puzzles," she adds.

After a long and active life as a teacher, she felt the need to continue her commitment even after retirement. So, together with a colleague, she founded a center for retired women in Ferizaj, where they could socialize and spend time together.

"One evening I was very nervous and went out to the balcony and my son called me, I told him that I was very nervous and the son told me that I should do something because I am not used to sitting around doing something, I thought that there are women like me who do not know how to arrange their lives and have nothing to do, so I took the initiative at this advanced age to create a center for pensioners where they can spend time together and that is how we created the center together with a colleague of mine, Nazmie Bekteshi," says the pensioner.

Mrs. Maria advises all retirees to enjoy this period in the best possible way and to be active in whatever activity they want to do.

"I tell everyone that we need to know how to arrange our day, I tell pensioners to read as much as possible, we used to read a lot but now young people are not as active as we were, let them do something, even a vase of flowers, but just don't sit idle and have an active day," she adds.

Mrs. Maria also has a special dedication to her garden in Brezovica. She enjoys every flower that has bloomed and that gives more fragrance and freshness to the space around her villa.
