Ferizaj accelerates firefighters' interventions

Since the installation of wells in various parts of the city of Ferizaj, the work of firefighters has become significantly easier. The supply of water for extinguishing fires is now faster, as the tanks can be filled at points closer to the scene of the incident. This has directly impacted the improvement of the response time and, consequently, the faster saving of lives and property. The Brigade Commander, Zimri Krasniqi, says that this is one of the best things that the Municipality has done for them by easing the difficult work of firefighters.

When the phone rings, the emergency response alarm is triggered.

This means that someone, somewhere, needs the help of firefighters.

Within minutes, the Ferizaj fire brigade was ready and headed quickly to the scene. This time the alarm was for a fire, but first the truck's tank needed to be filled with water.

To make their work easier, the Municipality of Ferizaj has installed wells in several points in the city, so that water supply can be done faster and easier.

"This has been an idea municipal project and one that we have really needed. These hydrants have been placed in different parts of the city and in villages. So far, 20 wells have been placed in different parts as well. They are completely at our disposal and we are being supplied by them at the nearest point and we have abundant water. We are in the final phase of placing others at different points," declares the commander of the Fire Brigade in Ferizaj, Zimri Krasniqi.

The hydrants are underground and connected to the regional water supply system.

"The hydrants are underground and arranged in the water supply and have water capacity to supply our vehicles. Previously, we were supplied with water only from the two wells that we have near here at the base, but their placement at various points in the villages is greatly facilitating our work, because the intervention time is being shortened and the actions are being accelerated," he emphasizes.

Zimri Krasniqi, with 25 years of experience as a firefighter, emphasizes that improving infrastructure is vital for this profession.

"Problems are constant in our profession. In addition to risking our lives, we also have technical problems with fires, and especially in elevators, it is extremely difficult to intervene and rescue people. In reality, we try with all the capacities we have for rapid intervention and to be closer to citizens," he declares.

Currently, Ferizaj has only 28 professional firefighters and, according to Krasniqi, this is a serious challenge.
"In terms of professionalism, we are 28 firefighters and, thanks to the Municipality, for several years we have also had the Firefighters' Association that helps us when we need interventions. The average age of firefighters is around 50 and it is extremely difficult to work with them, because the city is developing rapidly and the needs are increasing," he adds.

The project for installing fire hydrants in Ferizaj will continue in the next phases.
