We will travel together with Meridiana to the beautiful mountains of the village of Bresana. In the chronicle that we will see, we will have the opportunity to enjoy the picturesque views of this village and see the mountains of Bresana, which have recently become very popular for the construction of villas. The village head, Vezir Reshitaj, shows us the way of life of the inhabitants of this area.
Nestled among the high and beautiful mountains lies the village of Bresana. As one of the largest villages by population in the Dragash municipality, Bresana continues to remain unique for the approximately five thousand loyal residents who call this place home.
In the past, the village was known as the "horse village" due to the large number of horses it had. They were used to transport wood from the Bresana mountains. However, times have changed; horses have been replaced by tractors, while the mountains are now attracting interest for villa construction.
The price of land in this area is still affordable, which has encouraged an increase in the number of vacation rentals.
The village head, Vezir Rushiti, expresses his happiness that after the residents moved out, they are now returning to invest in the village.
"Here everyone has their own properties that they are building villas on, but the price of land is not high. Earlier, rye and oats were planted on these lands. The best thing about this migration of the population from the village is that they are returning and investing here again and there is great interest in building villas," said Rushiti. "The tradition of horses that we had has been completely lost. Now we keep horses just for fun, there are some residents who keep 4-5 horses in the village and give them out for riding in the mountains. I also have one, but earlier the village had about 350 horses. Now they have replaced the horse with a tractor."
He emphasizes that Bresana stands out for the development of livestock, adding that the lamb that grows in these lands has a unique taste.
"This place is a mountainous place, I don't believe that any other activity can be developed. Livestock has started to revive and the profit has also increased, so we are benefiting from this activity. In earlier times, there were more cows and sheep that the residents kept, but now whoever is involved in farming has his stable outside the village and the farms have also been modernized," said Rushiti.
Bresana is an attractive place for visitors, even foreigners. Rushiti says that Germans and Swiss are the most frequent guests of the village.
"In Bresana we also have foreign visitors here, our diaspora brings them here because they have company with them. Germans and Swiss are the most frequent visitors, especially during the summer months, they like our traditional weddings and participate in them when they are organized in the village, but our traditional foods such as flija and kachamak with corn flour are also in demand by them."
Even in Bresana, as in most villages in Kosovo, residents have begun to move.
However, the people of Bresna prefer to move westward, rather than towards Pristina.
"We have a wonderful diaspora that, even though they operate and live outside Kosovo, are interested in their homeland. If any resident living here is sick and needs money, they send it. Because everyone who moves from here goes to Western countries and very few to Pristina, or any surrounding municipality," said Rushiti.
There are currently about 11 farms operating in the village, mainly with cows and sheep, through which the residents of Bresana make their living.
