The beauties of Kučica Mountain that are attracting local visitors

Although not all the trees have bloomed yet, the beauties of Kuçica Mountain are stunning even during the winter season.

The Klina River runs through it, which makes this place even more special.

This is the place that the residents of Drenica have begun to visit frequently in their free time.

"At the moment we are in the village of Stërmc i Epërm, otherwise they are the Kuçica Mountains as they are known here in the area where I live or in Skenderaj. They are in the northern part of Skenderaj, we are actually on the outskirts of Skenderaj. These are mountains that recently, maybe the last five years, have been visited by all the citizens of the Municipality of Skenderaj but also from other countries. A new road has now been built and it is even more visited by people", emphasizes Skenderaj resident Ferid Bajraktari. 

The construction of the new road has increased the number of visitors from other cities in Kosovo.

"Kuçica has enough residents, so the residents of Kuqica and Klina e Epërme mostly visit here. Well, it's not bad, there are those who have migrated abroad, but also within Kosovo to other cities. We often visit Serbian villages and we go by car quickly and there is no problem, there was no problem in the past either. In the last year we have met many people who have come from Prishtina, Prizren or other cities, whom they have seen in various videos. Before, it was difficult to get here because there was no road, now there are many residents who come out of curiosity to see this northern part that connects to Ujman", declares Bajraktari.

Surrounding this beauty are several villages inhabited by Albanians and some by Serbs. 

"Here it is surrounded by the village of Kërligatë, then on this side is Stërmci i Epërm, it is inhabited by about 12 Serbian houses. Then in the part up there is Prevllak and Ujmani. This is the Klina River where from here it is about 12 kilometers towards the source otherwise in the other part it goes towards Kuçica, passes the three Klinas of Skenderaj and flows into the Drini i Bardhë. There are really many beauties, the trees that are here have already started to bloom. It is inhabited by flora and fauna where the most frequent visitor is actually wild deer, roe deer, there are rabbits, bears, wolves. Me and a group of friends often visit it by motorbike. This is the part where we visit most often. So here is a stopping point where we stay for about half an hour every time we go out," says Bajraktari.

However, the animals of this area are being endangered due to environmental destruction.

"Most are careful, sometimes there are cases when they are not, but they are becoming aware that they must protect the environment, but also be careful of animals. The animals that are in this area are in danger, there is the deer, but we do not hunt them. There are quite a few hunters, but they are not hunted, at least I have not seen anyone hunting them. It is the wild boar that they hunt," Bajraktari declares.

As for the air, Bajraktari says that this mountain also has pine trees that are very good for health.

"The air is very clean. This part where we are, is 720 meters above sea level, then in Prevlaka it is 1050 and the river is very clean and the air is too. In this part here there are also pine trees that are very good for health. The air is clean because there is nothing that pollutes it. In recent years, an athletics trail has also been built or as it is otherwise known, the November Run, where many people participate. Today it is a very interesting attraction for the residents of this area", he emphasizes.

The Drenica Dam is expected to be built in this area, a project worth tens of millions of euros, which is expected to finally solve the drinking water problem for over 200 thousand residents.
