For years Janet Reineck lived in Kosovo, and upon returning to America she founded a humanitarian organization, which she called "World Dance for Humanity".
Now, having returned to live in Kosovo, through a dance group with girls and women from all over here, she provides donations for countries at war.
"My organization 'World Dance for Humanity' means world dance for humanity, it started in 2010 and when I returned to America from Kosovo, I worked with humanitarian aid and founded this organization. So, we are with dance, but also with humanitarian aid. In America we have 6 days a week, but in Kosovo 3 days. The only thing that matters to me is to have fun with the ladies here without judging each other," says Reineck.
The interest of Kosovar women in becoming part of the dance classes has surprised her. He says that he teaches them the dance steps of all Albanian tribes. But also those of countries that are at war, as a sign of solidarity with the experiences of other peoples.
"I am surprised that here in Kosovo they are open for dancing. Of course, at first we teach them the basic steps of the dances. But together we also learned about African and Indian dance, and especially dances of countries that are still experiencing war, to raise awareness of what people in the world are going through", says Reineck.
It was not difficult for Janet to teach him Albanian dances.
He moved to live in Kosovo in 1981, when the Albanians were living under violent measures, but he says he found himself quickly, because he loved the Albanian melos.
"I have lived here for a long time. It was very difficult for me to adapt, because I lived in the years of violent measures on the eve of the war that Kosovo experienced, but I managed to find myself. I was included in the lives of the people here, in the villages, and I believe that I succeeded only because I really loved the Albanian melos", emphasizes Reineck.
Through these dance classes, Janet is collecting donations to send as aid to Ukraine.
"Here at the 'Shota' dance ensemble, whom I thank for providing us with the space for dancing, we are collecting funds, which go to Ukraine", says Reineck.
Janet likes the dances that are played at Albanian weddings, but there are critics when talking about the big expenses in a wedding.
"For weddings in Kosovo, I had said better at home than in a hotel. I like the arrangements at home, because there is everything traditional. I am used to folk music and I like it very much. So a tip for everyone, spend as little as possible. Better not to spend a lot of money on weddings and big houses. Kosovo needs investment in businesses and no more spending on weddings," says Reineck.
