Does baking soda help with stomach problems?
Gastroenterologist Zaim Gashi spoke on KTV's "Today" show about gastric diseases, and among the questions received from the audience was whether baking soda helps soothe the stomach.
He said that baking soda should not be used for a long time.
"There are preparations that are based on bicarbonate soda, which is said in medicine that there is no faster neutralizer of acidity. But, it is a preparation that should not be used for a long time. If we are far from a pharmacy to get any medicine, then there is the possibility of using it. But, not major misuse. If it comes to old age, sodium bicarbonate, as baking soda is known, indicates that it contains sodium. Sodium causes heart problems and can very quickly lead to heart failure. At a young age not so quickly, but at an old age it can cause heart fatigue and what we call cardiac failure," said Gashi.
Gashi also said that it is not good to eat hot food, as it provokes the organization. One should wait for the food to cool down a bit, not for it to be too hot.
"And if we add hot foods, which contain spices and herbs, then things will get even more complicated," said Gashi.
