The first joint military exercise of the year between NATO and Serbia began this week at the "Jug" base and the "Borovac" military training range near Bujanovac, and will last until May 23.
The news was announced by the Serbian Ministry of Defense, which announced that around 600 members of the Serbian Army and the armed forces of Italy, Romania and Turkey are participating in the exercise called "NATO-Serbia", writes "Index.hr".
Military planners and observers from several countries, including the United States of America, Great Britain, Germany, France, and Montenegro, are also present at this military activity.
The exercise is led by Colonel Branislav Stevanović, deputy commander of the Third Brigade of the Serbian Army.
According to the Serbian Ministry of Defense, this is a tactical exercise aimed at improving cooperation and exchange of experiences between the Serbian Army and the forces of NATO member countries.
During the two-week field activities, tactics, techniques and procedures used in peace support operations will be practiced, including securing bases, controlling checkpoints, managing mass gatherings and combat operations in urban areas.

The Serbian ministry emphasized that the exercise is being held based on a decision of the Serbian Government and within the framework of the "Partnership for Peace" program, respecting, according to it, the country's military neutrality.
It was also announced that cooperation between Serbia and NATO aims to maintain peace and stability in the region, increase the operational capacities of the armed forces, and strengthen mutual trust and understanding.
