The Zoo in Skopje has been closed since Sunday morning due to suspicions of bird flu, reports Alsat M.
Food and Veterinary Agency inspectors are conducting investigations and have not yet released official information.

On the other hand, in a communique from the Zoo, it is said that the inspectors entered the zoo without a warrant and killed several birds. From there they also announce a criminal complaint against the director of the Food and Veterinary Agency and the inspectors.
"From this morning, without an order, decision, or other evidence, AUV inspectors accompanied by armed men entered the Skopje zoo and slaughtered the birds. Without justification, these people, on the orders of the director of the AUV and without evidence until this moment, killed several dozen birds that roamed freely in the zoo. It is about the decorative species of geese and ducks that live in the city park, and have natural access to the zoo from the city park", the announcement states.

The Food and Veterinary Agency did not respond to the Zoo's allegations.
The former director of the zoo, Gjorgi Galetanovski, has confirmed that the inspectors are on the ground and has indicated that the people who were present at the zoo this morning have been evacuated.
"As far as I know there are inspectors from AUV, from health I don't know if there are any present. "We are working on the ground, let's hope it's not bird flu, but as I understand it, it's a deadly bacteria," said Galetanovski.
The association for the protection of animals, "Anima Mundi" has reacted in relation to the way the birds were destroyed in the Skopje Zoo, after the authorities found the presence of bird flu, namely the H5N1 virus.
