In the interview conducted on the show "Behind the Screens" on KTV, the topics that dominated the disinformation ecosystem during 2023 were discussed, with guest Xhemajl Rexha, president of the Association of Journalists of Kosovo (AGK).
Rexha said that the main topics of developments during 2023 were the north and the murder of Liridona Ademaj Murseli, which have received the focus of the national media.
"I believe there are two main topics. The first is the north of Kosovo and everything that has happened around the developments there, which started as early as November 2022 with the removal of Serbs from the institutions, and then the installation of barricades in the north of Kosovo and everything that happened during 2023. since the holding of early elections in the four municipalities in April, and then in May and June, the attacks on KFOR forces and culminating with the attack on September 24 in Banjska", said Rexha.
In general, it says that black chronicles dominated during the previous year.
Furthermore, Rexha emphasized that these topics are more controversial, taking into account the preoccupation and interest of citizens when it comes to security. According to him, this has led to less treatment of other topics such as social and health.
"I believe that the media have also seen that the public's interest is in such security topics, because it has affected their daily life in some way. Uncertainty about what will happen, when in fact we have had statements by politicians that there could be war and we still have them, both by the president and the prime minister, so that Serbia is preparing a new attack on Kosovo", he added.
Rexha is convinced that the year 2024 will be even more severe than the year 2023 in terms of the production of disinformation.
"The focus will continue to remain the north of Kosovo and the developments that are expected there. There may very soon be new elections for the four municipalities, where the Serbs are expected to participate, and there will be a lot of information, a lot of it, from both sides, not confirmed and that could fall into the category of misinformation," he said. the chairman of AGK.
He added that in the second half of the year it will be possible to start the electoral campaign for the parliamentary elections of Kosovo, and thus, according to him, a suitable ground will be created for the spread of misinformation and fake news.
