Algerian boxer Imane Khelif reached the Olympic semi-finals on Saturday to secure her country's first medal in Paris, criticizing the International Boxing Federation (IBA) after her triumph.
Khelif is biologically female and not a trans person, but was found to have an excess of male hormones, which led to the suspicion that she is male.
The International Olympic Committee allowed Khelifi to compete in the women's event even though the World Boxing Organization (IBA) banned her from the World Championships last year.
"I have been boxing for years under the auspices of the International Boxing Federation, which has done me injustice. But I have Allah with me. Allahu Akbar", said the Algerian after the match.
Khelifi defeated the Hungarian Luca Anna Hamori by unanimous decision and at the end of the match he could not hide his emotions and cried after what he has experienced in the last few days.
The 25-year-old will box on Tuesday to qualify for the final.
In Olympic boxing, medals are also awarded to those who reach the semi-finals.
