Boxer Sherifdeen Lawal has lost his life in the ring during the duel he had in London on Sunday night with the Portuguese Malam Varela.
Lawal, who was debuting in the professional ring, was knocked down in the second round. Despite the efforts of doctors to save his life, he died.
The entire evening of boxing, where the Albanian Amarildo Bakaj was also scheduled to box, was canceled afterwards.
Bakaj told about the event in a post on social networks.
"Unfortunately, the match was cancelled, as a boxer lost his life in the ring where I was going to fight, where I had the main match of the evening. That boxer had that luck, it hurts me a lot, tomorrow we can all have that luck as boxers. It is a very difficult sport. Imagine when you have to sign for death before entering the ring, that if something happens it is not the fault of the opponent or anyone else. I am very sorry", said Bakaj, who apologized to the fans who came and said that his match with the Ghanaian Joshua Quartey was planned to be postponed for almost a month.
Bakaj has won ten bouts in professional boxing, all by stoppage.
