Prenga ready for career fight with Joshua
Albanian boxer Kristian Prenga is ready for arguably the biggest fight of his career. Tonight, the 35-year-old Prenga will fight British star Anthony Joshua. The fight will take place around midnight in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
The heavyweight bout is not for a title. But it is a life-changing opportunity for Prenga, the boxer from Mirdita who lives in the USA.
If he performs well against Joshua, Prenga is expected to secure other big fights in professional boxing. An eventual victory would be sensational.
Prenga has 20 wins and one loss in his career. All 20 of his wins have come by knockout. But for the first time, he will share the ring with a higher-level boxer.
Joshua is considered the heavy favorite in the fight in Saudi Arabia. His professional boxing record is 29 wins and four losses. 26 of his victories have come by stoppage.
Joshua's opponents, however, were of a significantly higher level than those of the Albanian boxer. Joshua has held world titles in various formats and versions. He suffered his first defeat in 2019, when he was surprised by Andy Ruiz. In 2021 and 2022, he suffered two consecutive defeats by Oleksandr Usyk. He had another defeat by Daniel Dubois on September 21, 2024.
He hasn't had a real challenge since. He defeated YouTube star Jake Paul on December 19th of last year. He won by stoppage, but Joshua's victory was expected.
A few days after that fight, Joshua lost two of his best friends in a car accident in Nigeria. Joshua suffered minor injuries in the accident on December 29 last year.
Joshua's plan is to win against Preng, fight at the end of the year in the long-awaited fight with Tyson Fury and then win the world heavyweight titles again.
Fury won a not-so-tough fight in Thailand on Friday. And fans around the world are now waiting for a fight between him and Joshua.
But Prenga said that the fight will not take place, as he will win against Joshua. He also mentioned the knockout. If this happens, it would be one of the greatest successes of Albanian boxers so far.
