Behije Mustafa put up a strong fight in the final of the European Karate Championship for Young Women. But she still didn't win the gold.
On Sunday afternoon in Bielsko-Biala, Poland, Mustafa won the silver medal in the U21 age group, in the 68 kg category. He was defeated in the final by Germany's Hannah Riedel.
Mustafa was leading 1:0 and then 2:1. The fight was intense until the end, and ended 4:4.
Due to the equal result, the winner was declared by decision of the judges. Three side judges judged the German and one Kosovar judoka the winner.
Behije Mustafa had the advantage of scoring the first point, but he was penalized by the fact that he received a penalty from the referee in the arena in the last 15 seconds. And this was decisive.
The silver medal, however, is a great success for the Kosovar karateka. She scored four victories on Saturday to reach the final. She defeated karatekas from France, Serbia, Denmark and Turkey.
Mustafa also has a bronze medal from the European Youth Championships in 2021. He had won bronze in the junior age group.
