When these sweet alcohols enter the body, they are fermented by bacteria in the colon. This then causes gas, which causes bloating, pain and diarrhea. In this case, erythritol may increase the risk of heart disease.

In addition to being addictive, artificial sweeteners also cause other problems in the body such as obesity, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes.
