In a remote part of the Brazilian Amazon in the state of Pará, is Fordlandia (Ford Land) a failed attempt by Henry Ford who in 1928 set out to build an American-style city deep in the rainforest.
Fordlandia is still not accessible by road, but requires a six-hour boat ride from the nearest town – Santarem.
Ford completely created the small town by placing farms and factories for the production of plastic wheels in it, reports KJ.
The city was planned to be home to 10,000 people. But things didn't go as planned as malaria struck and many workers revolted until 1934 when they decided to leave the city.
Currently, there are dozens of people who have returned to live in these abandoned houses and have even begun the process of privatizing them.
In the last 10 years the population of the city with the iconic name has increased and the residents seem to wish long life for their city for many, many years to come.
