The rare shark is caught in US waters

Marine researchers in California have filmed a newborn great white shark for the first time, Upi wrote.

Wildlife filmmaker Carlos Gauna and biology PhD student Philip Sternes were in the waters off Santa Barbara, California when they captured the drone footage of the 5-foot-long shark.

The newborn was completely white, in contrast to the color of adult whites, which are white on the underside but gray on top.

"We zoomed in on the images, put them in slow motion and realized that the white layer was 'leaking' from the body. I believe it was a newborn white shark that shed its embryonic layer," Gauna said.

According to him, this footage is rare, as usually, newborn sharks do not survive long.

"If what we saw is true, then this is also monumental because no such condition has ever been reported for these sharks," he added.
