A newborn baby on board - American passenger gives birth during the flight

A Delta Air Lines passenger from Atlanta gave birth to a baby girl shortly before the plane landed at Portland International Airport in Oregon on Friday. Two paramedics who were also on the same flight took a blanket from another passenger and used a shoelace to tie off the umbilical cord.

Baby Brielle Renee Blair was born two weeks early. The plane had 30 minutes to land at its destination when the labor began.

The baby's mother, Ashley Blair, was traveling to Oregon to be with her mother during the birth.

Two doctors who spoke to the Associated Press said Blair had gone into labor during the flight and that it was inevitable that something else would have to be done to help the woman give birth safely.

According to two doctors, it was precisely the moment the plane's wheels touched the ground when they cut the baby's cord and were holding it in their hands.
