A very rare blue diamond has been sold for 43.8 million dollars at Christie's auction in Geneva, "BBC" reports.
The 17.61 carat "Bleu Royal" diamond is pear-shaped and set in a ring.
Part of a private collection for 50 years, it is the first time the Bleu Royal has been sold at auction.
"The diamond is among the rarest that has been discovered," the auction house announced.
Christie's said only three blue diamonds over 10 carats have sold in the auction's 250-year history, in 2010, 2014 and 2016.

"We are very happy. It is the most expensive jewel sold in 2023 in the whole world", said Max Fawcett, from this auction house.
