Scientists have discovered a reservoir of liquid water on Mars - deep in the planet's rocky outer crust, the BBC reports.
The findings came after new analyzes of data from NASA's Mars Insight Lander, which landed on the Red Planet in 2018.
There was a seismometer on the spacecraft, which recorded four years of tremors - earthquakes - from the depths of Mars.
By analyzing those earthquakes – and exactly how the planet moves – "seismic signals" of liquid water were discovered.
While there is frozen water at the Martian poles and evidence of steam in the atmosphere, this is the first time that liquid water has been found on the planet.
The findings were published in "Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences".
