A cat traveled to a mailbox over 800 kilometers from home

A cat has been reunited with its owner in Utah after traveling 804 miles to California in an Amazon box.

Carrie Clark said her 6-year-old cat, Galena, went missing from her Lehi home on April 10 and didn't show up when friends and neighbors went looking for her.

Clark said she was shocked when she was contacted on April 17 by a vet more than 804 miles away from where they lived. The vet had scanned the cat for a microchip and obtained Clark's contact information.

"I couldn't believe it was true," Clark told the New York Times. "I told her: I think this is a joke."

She said Galena's journey began to become more believable as she began to put the "pieces" together.

Clark's husband, Matt, had sent a package in the mail containing five pairs of boots.

Clark said the cat must have jumped inside the box when Matt left the room to get the packing tape.

"Unfortunately, she's not the type of cat that makes noise," Clark told the Los Angeles Times.

Brandy Hunter, an employee at the Amazon warehouse in Riverside, said in a series of Facebook posts that a co-worker found Galena inside the box.

Clark and her husband flew to California the next day to be reunited with their cat.

"When I was able to hold her again, she stopped shaking and knew I was there for her," Clark said. "It was such a wonderful moment."
