The technical and security workers of the UP suspend the strike for a week

The technical and physical security workers of the University of Prishtina protested on Tuesday in front of the Rectorate, with the request for a salary increase. They announced the termination of the strike that started for more than three weeks, as they gave one week to the Rectorate to consider their demands.

During the protest, they considered their salary of 250 euros insufficient to cover monthly expenses.

"With those salaries, it is very difficult, seeing the prices that have increased. What did I do with 200 euros, where is the electricity, where is the family with food and other things. First, for yourself, the return trip home with these 200 euros is not worth it. Plus, to pay 200 euros, this is a disaster as if I live anywhere, let alone in Kosovo", said Fazile Fazliu, a technical worker.

E Zeqir Krasniqi, security worker, expects that their demands will be understood by the institutions.

"Truly, 250 euros salary today is not a salary, but social assistance, because no family can afford it. I hope that both the Rectorate and the leaders, both the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Finance will reflect in a very short period and we will also be paid 400 euros because the standard is very high", said Krasniqi.

Jusuf Azemi, head of the Private Sector Workers' Union, announced that these workers' employment contracts expired on Tuesday, and asked the Rectorate to review their requests once again.

"We are stronger than the first day we went on strike. I guarantee you that with this organization, I guarantee you this rectory will never find peace without making the salary 400 euros, and we can guarantee that we can only keep this salary for six months", Azemi stated.

The technical and physical security workers of the UP have also been supported by the students who have placed several banners with different inscriptions at the entrance of the Rectorate.
