KOSTT workers demand salary increase, otherwise they warn of strikes

KOSTT workers have warned of a strike if their demands for salary increases and better working conditions are not met. They addressed the demands during a protest in front of the headquarters of the institution where they work.

Dozens of workers at the System, Transmission and Market Operator (KOSTT) protested on Friday for salary increases and better working conditions.

Arben Pllana, president of the KOSTT Workers' Union, said that the demands must be met, as the risk at work is great and must be paid.

"We have requested recognition of the dangerousness based on the law. We have encountered neglectful silence. The danger exists and must be paid. The third request, our overtime compensation," he said during the protest held in front of the KOSTT facility in Pristina.

Pllana also said that if there is no reflection, then within a week, other strikes and protests will be held.

And, the president of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK) Workers' Union, Nexhat Llumnica, has called on the KOSTT Board to talk to union members about improving their welfare.

"It is necessary and imperative to retain these staff within the energy system. You are the main asset of this company. Without you, there can be no energy. We call on the KOSTT board to talk to the union and negotiate to increase welfare. They know that inflation exists. We will continue with protests and strikes until our demands are met," Llumnica emphasized.

The workers have requested that management urgently consider the possibility of improving working conditions and increasing wages.
