The Prosecution in Peja is investigating dozens of police officers, suspected of hiding nearly 200 criminal reports

The Peja region, which includes Klina, Deçan and Istog, has marked a year without a single murder. For this, the Peja chief prosecutor has decorated three police officers. However, dozens of police officers are being investigated, as they are suspected of hiding cases from the prosecution so that they would not be investigated and become obsolete.

Dozens of police officers are being investigated by the Basic Prosecution Office in Peja, on suspicion of concealing cases. The Chief Prosecutor of Peja, Lumturije Vuçetaj, has confirmed that they are part of the investigation of nearly 200 criminal reports in the Kosovo Police. According to Vuçetaj, the police officers are suspected of concealing cases in order to prevent them from being investigated and becoming obsolete.

"We also have dozens of police officers who are in the investigation process, we await their epilogue, but by the time the indictment is filed, you will certainly be informed... The case is being investigated by the State Prosecutor. Due to the sensitivity of the case and the circumstances in which it is being processed, I cannot provide more information, but the case is being processed," Vuçetaj announced.

Chief Prosecutor Lumturije Vuçetaj has said that no one, not even uniformed officials, will be immune from criminal prosecution.

"Corruption weakens justice, increases impunity, and especially when the law is not applied equally to everyone, citizens lose trust, feel insecure and discriminated against, and in this regard, I have always said, no one is above the law - not even those who are responsible for enforcing the law and the safety of citizens, those who wear state uniforms and carry public authorizations," said Vuçetaj.

The year 2025 for the Peja region has produced positive statistics compared to all post-war years – no murders have been recorded. Three police officers have even been honored with gratitude by the Basic Prosecution for their contribution to preventing a murder. In October last year in Peja, they intervened when a person was shooting a Kalashnikov at a moving vehicle. Camera footage showed the quick reaction of the police officers, while the attacker was trying to pick up the other weapon he had left on the ground.
The head of the Peja Prosecution Office warned that they will be uncompromising against crime and environmental degradation.

Vuçetaj also emphasized that combating domestic violence and raising society's awareness of gender-based violence will be their priority in 2026.
