The municipality of Podujevo declared a state of emergency on Wednesday, after it was covered in garbage.
Mayor Shpejtim Bulliqi, who is also the head of the Emergency Headquarters for Protection and Rescue, blamed the regional waste company "Pastrimi" for mismanagement.
According to Bulliqi, the Municipality has enabled the company to operate only in the city, after giving the service in the villages to a private company, but according to him, it has failed even with this.
"Now it is emerging that there are problems in providing this service in the city as well. There are cases where it operates with one truck, and there are days when it does not provide service at all. Due to this situation that has been created, where we now also have migrants here and the volume of waste has increased and taking into account the health of citizens, I have received a recommendation from the Directorate of Public Services to declare a state of emergency," Bulliqi announced.

Bulliqi said that he has continuously helped "Pastrimi" with subsidies, but according to him, the problem is at the center - in Pristina.
"Our will is to help this enterprise, but it is evident that there is mismanagement by the management of this enterprise in the center. Due to this serious situation, we need to find a quick solution for waste collection in the city," said the mayor of Podujeva.
The decision to declare a state of emergency will be in effect until November 5.
And the KRM "Pastrimi" has denied these accusations. They have said that the problem is with the bills that are not increasing for citizens.
"The KRM 'Pastrimi' has been operating with a negative financial balance for years, because the fee for waste collection in the Municipality of Podujeva has remained unchanged since 2008, even after many promises by the mayor and the municipality during these 3 years that the fee will be changed after this or that election cycle. Despite the enormous increase in operating costs, fuel, spare parts, maintenance, salaries and all other expenses, in Podujeva the fee continues to be only 4.70 euros with VAT, among the few municipalities in Kosovo", states the response of the regional company "Pastrimi".
And in Pristina, bills have increased, but garbage continues to be in every neighborhood.
