Opposition parties have opposed the LVV's attempt to have the budget review addressed in the extraordinary session of the Parliament, only for the part of 122 million euros to complete the package to deal with inflation. According to the opposition, bringing this package three days before the Parliament is to dissolve in case the president is not elected is a misuse of public money to buy votes in possible elections.

The extraordinary session of the Parliament failed to review the 2026 Budget, through which the Government aimed to secure authorization to allocate 122 million euros to support citizens.

According to representatives of the executive, these funds would complete the support package of 200 million euros to combat inflation.

But the request, which was submitted to the Assembly two and a half months after the formation of the Government and three days before the Assembly could dissolve if it fails to elect a president, was one of the first five decisions that the Kurti Government had pledged to make as soon as it began its new mandate.

Vetëvendosje proposed that this budget review be included on the agenda, avoiding the deadlines for review set by the Rules of Procedure of the Assembly.

But his treatment failed because opposition MPs believed that the funds would be used to buy votes if the Assembly was dissolved at the beginning of the week.

"You are saying: add another 122 million euros of public money, give them the opportunity to abuse public money. To simplify it, let's buy votes with public money. And this, in an accelerated procedure," said MP Bedri Hamza, who is also the chairman of the largest opposition party, PDK.

The head of the AAK parliamentary group, Besnik Tahiri, has also expressed his opposition.

"As you can see, the election of the president does not have a sustainable path, so please do not bring yourself into this situation. Do not bring yourself to use public money, public function, public duty, public vehicle, public assistant, to use in elections against political opponents," he said.

The Minister of Finance, Hekuran Murati, responded to the positions.

"If it is truly the citizen's interest at stake, if you are truly concerned that citizens need support at a time when the situation has worsened due to the war in the Persian Gulf with rising prices, then I ask you to support this package," was Minister Murati's request.

However, he was criticized for not bringing up the budget review in its entirety, but only the issue of completing the package to deal with inflation, and that this, according to the opposition, is in contradiction with the Law on Public Finance Management.
