A call for political stability was made at the Eid celebration.

Muslims have celebrated one of the two most important holidays in the Islamic religion, Eid al-Adha. Amidst the atmosphere of prayers and congratulations, there were also calls for solidarity, care for the needy, family closeness and social unity. And, in the central sermon, Mufti Naim Tërnava emphasized that Kosovo needs economic and political stability, functional institutions and state responsibility.

Since the early hours of Wednesday, mosque courtyards were filled with Muslim believers who gathered to pray for one of the two most important religious holidays, Eid al-Adha, which is celebrated after the completion of the hajj. Amid the atmosphere of prayers and congratulations, there was no shortage of calls for solidarity, care for the needy, family closeness and social unity. 

At a time of political tension and uncertainty, appeals for more responsibility, stability, and unity were made from mosque pulpits.

Mufti appeals to politicians

The central event was held at the Great Mosque in Pristina. The ceremony began with the morning prayer, led by the chairman of the Pristina Council, Hetem Sopjani, and continued with a lecture dedicated to Eid al-Adha, which was delivered by the chief imam of Skenderaj, Arbnor Sinani.
The central sermon with the messages of this holiday was delivered by the Mufti of Kosovo, Naim Tërnava, who called for unity, love, and solidarity.

He stressed that Kosovo needs economic and political stability, functional institutions and state responsibility, while he was critical of the political clashes on the eve of the electoral campaign for the early elections to be held on June 7, which were announced after the failure of the political class to elect a president.

Tërnava said that citizens are tired of the constant political conflicts and successive elections, which, according to him, have created uncertainty for the future.

"A nation that forgets its roots risks losing its orientation in history. While a nation that preserves its memory, culture and values ​​remains strong even in the face of the greatest challenges. To build these high ideals, our country needs, in addition to economic and political stability, functional institutions and state responsibility," said Mufti Tërnava. "Unfortunately, narrow group interests and endless political clashes of our parties have exhausted our citizens and created uncertainty for the future. Holding consecutive elections, the lack of institutional unity and political polarization do not serve Kosovo, but weaken civic trust and diminish the hope of the younger generation."

He said that there can be no greater interest than the interest of the homeland, and that there can be no personal animosity over the fate of Kosovo. The Mufti emphasized that the stability of the state and the well-being of the citizen are historical responsibilities that require prudence, wisdom and national vision.

Tërnava called for the campaign for the early elections, which begins on Thursday, to be conducted with prudence and dignity, based on ideas and vision. He also invited citizens to exercise their right to vote freely.

"In this pre-election campaign, let there be no place for hate speech, insults, lynching, unfounded accusations and smearing each other with false accusations just for one vote. A campaign built on division and slander does not serve Kosovo or its future. Let dignity and a democratic culture of dialogue prevail. Let there be respect for different opinions", said Tërnava, during the sermon. "We remain hopeful that after these elections, the political factor will reflect with prudence and state responsibility, that the country's institutions will be formed as soon as possible and that political and institutional stability will be created to work together for the future of Kosovo, the well-being of citizens and the future of young people... Only united can we face the challenges".

Politicians with lectures on religion

And, politicians from both camps visited the Islamic Community to express their congratulations on the Eid holiday.

Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti was received by the Mufti of Tërnava. There, he emphasized the importance of this holiday.

"It is a celebration of sacrifice, which reminds us and constantly teaches us that sacrifice is also a celebration, because we enjoy the benefits and fruits of those who have sacrificed before us and have enabled us to have freedom and prosperity, first and foremost the martyrs of the nation, where we never forget that there are also 37 imams and hoxhalar from the liberation war, such as the KLA, and up to what we do today as state institutions, as Islamic Communities and as charitable associations, to come to the aid of the citizens of the Republic for every need they have," said Kurti.

The Islamic Community was also visited by the Speaker of Parliament Albulena Haxhiu, who is also the acting president. She said that the essence of the Eid al-Adha holiday lies in sacrifice for the good, dedication that transcends oneself, and care for others. 

"On days like this, families come closer, tables open, hearts soften, and caring for each other becomes even more visible. I hope this spirit accompanies us in our families, in our neighborhoods, at work, and in our daily lives," said Haxhiu.

Even the leaders of the opposition parties have visited the Islamic Community and congratulated Muslim believers on the occasion of the Eid al-Adha holiday. 

The Chairman of the PDK, Bedri Hamza, in his message wished that this holiday brings peace, health, harmony and prosperity to every family. He also gave a political message.

"Crises will be temporary, while our commitment and will for change, for dignity and for a better future will always be greater. Therefore, I hope that this celebration will also serve as inspiration for us to be more united, closer to each other and more determined to build a Kosovo with more well-being, development and hope for every family," said Hamza.

Meanwhile, the leader of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, in his congratulations highlighted the importance of human values ​​symbolized by the holiday of Kurban Bayram.

"Kurban Bayram reminds us of the most beautiful human values. It reminds us of sacrifice, solidarity, closeness to each other and care for those who need it most. It is a day of reflection, kindness and unity; a day that reminds us that the strength of a society is measured by the humanity, respect and love we share among ourselves, but also by faith and gratitude to the Creator," Abdixhiku emphasized.

The president of the Alliance, Ardian Gjini, also visited BIK, where he said that Kosovo and the Albanian people are lucky for religious harmony, but also for the message that the Islamic Community conveys for a state of law.

"This message reconfirms that our main priority must always be a humane state, which does not neglect any citizen and which works for the well-being of every family in Kosovo," Gjini wrote.
Among the many political personalities who have visited the Islamic Community is former President Vjosa Osmani.

"Even in this visit, we conveyed our most sincere wishes for peace, health, harmony and prosperity in every family. Eid al-Adha reminds us of the values ​​of solidarity, understanding and humanity, bringing us closer to each other," she said.

Evidence of interfaith respect

Kosovo is a country characterized by religious tolerance. Representatives of different faiths congratulate each other on holidays like this.

Among the first to receive congratulations from Tërnava was the Bishop of Kosovo, His Eminence Dodë Gjergji. He conveyed his congratulations to the Mufti of Tërnava on Eid al-Adha, emphasizing the importance of this holiday as a symbol of sacrifice, kindness and solidarity among people.

The Bishop of Kosovo said that Eid al-Adha is an important moment to strengthen mutual respect, coexistence, and shared interfaith and interhuman values.

"I am here to express our congratulations, our gratitude, but also our best wishes to the Mufti of Tërnava, but also to the entire Islamic Community. So that we may once again, as always, demonstrate mutual respect, interfaith coexistence, brotherly joy, sharing of pain and joy, and in this case, sharing of the feelings of the holiday, such as Eid al-Adha, because every holiday is an exaltation of the righteous spirit of God, the almighty creator," said Gjergji.

Citizens' message

Eid al-Adha is one of the most important holidays of the Islamic religion and is celebrated in memory of the willingness of the prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, as a sign of obedience and devotion to the command of God. According to Islamic tradition, at the moment of trial, God replaced the sacrifice with a kurban, turning the event into a symbol of faith, sacrifice and mercy. The holiday is celebrated every year during the month of Hajj and for believers conveys messages of solidarity, help for those in need, family closeness and spiritual devotion.

During the sermon delivered by the Mufti of Tërnava immediately after the Eid prayer, he also referred to this event.

"Today, on this beautiful morning of this great day, millions of believers from all over the world have gathered in the blessed land of Mecca, responding to the eternal call of Abraham, to testify to the unity, equality and piety of the Islamic society. Among them are our pilgrims from Kosovo, who even today near the Kaaba pray for peace, forgiveness, mercy and well-being for our people and for all humanity", said Tërnava. "Therefore, on this great day, let us cleanse our hearts from hatred, division and selfishness, let us strengthen family and social ties, let us help those in need and let us become people of peace, knowledge and responsibility".

Citizens also gave messages in this spirit, after the central ceremony at the Great Mosque in Pristina concluded.

"Let us be with God. The message, even the greatest message, is for people to be with God," Ibrahim Ilazi said succinctly.
Meanwhile, Fuat Islami wished peace and tolerance for the entire Islamic world and beyond, emphasizing the importance of solidarity with the poor and maintaining harmony among people.

"May peace, harmony, love, and tolerance reign in the world. And naturally, there should be no great social differences, a hand should be extended to the poor, to those who have nothing, to those who need the help of others, there should be no great racial, national, social, political, or religious differences, but in any case, there should be peace, harmony, and tolerance among people," he said.

Islami emphasized that the tradition of Eid al-Adha should also serve to bring family members closer and to help those in need.

And the message that dominated this Eid al-Adha is that only united can we face the challenges of the time, including economic and political ones.
