Kurti: To implement the normalization agreement

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has called for the agreement to normalize relations with Serbia to be implemented. Speaking on the north from an international conference in Dubrovnik, he said that in accordance with the demands of the US and the EU, the presence of special units of the Kosovo Police may be reduced in the north after violent extremists stop the unrest.

(KTV) - Kosovo and Serbia have an agreement for the normalization of relations that they must implement, Prime Minister Albin Kurti said on Friday at the conference: "European Croatia: Retrospective and perspective", held in Dubrovnik. In the background of requests addressed by the United States and the European Union for the removal of mayors from municipal facilities in the north and of special police units, Kurti has emphasized that Kosovo can reduce the presence of special units if the violent extremists stop the riots.

"Kosovo must face the violent extremists, the ultranationalists, the right-wingers, who believe in the 'Serbian world' and look at it with the Russian world... these are people who admire Milosevic or Putin," said Kurti.

He added that Kosovo needs the rule of law and a date for new elections in the north, which was requested by the international factor.

"I think this is the way forward, together with intensive dialogue for the implementation of the agreement, because we have an agreement that we must implement."

In March, Kosovo and Serbia agreed to implement the EU agreement on the normalization of relations, which would "de facto" bring mutual recognition, but the Serbian president, Aleksandar Vučić, refused to sign it.

"This is a great achievement of the EU. We have reached a situation where Kosovo and Serbia finally have an agreement for normalization", added Kurti.
