The Municipality of Pristina warns of criminal charges for restricting the opening hours of the landfill in Mirash

Municipality of Prishtina

The CEO of the company "Pastrimi", Petrit Reçica, said that as of October 1, the Landfill Management Company has decided to close the landfill in Mirash during the hours after midnight and that this restriction has made work more difficult.

"The situation has started to become difficult, because our regular work has been 24-hour, without interruption, and the work has been completed 100%, especially from 21:00 PM to 04:00 AM. This restriction on the hours that has been made has limited us to only three hours of work, while we cannot perform service for another five hours due to the time restriction," he said on the "tre8tre" show on KTV.

The position was opposed by the Landfill Management Company. In a response published on Tuesday, it is stated that the landfill in Mirash has been open 24 hours a day only during the three summer months - July, August and September.

According to her, the restriction was made after analyzing the flow of waste acceptance, the utilization of human and technical capacities, operating costs, and occupational health and safety conditions.

"At the Mirash Sanitary Landfill, the number of vehicles that show up for waste disposal during the night hours is relatively small compared to the activity during the day. This situation has contributed to the increase in operating costs and the incomplete utilization of human and technical capacities," the reaction states.

But Reçica has warned that this restriction could worsen the public health situation.

Many municipalities have also been dissatisfied with the services of the Regional Waste Company "Pastrimi", some of which have discontinued services, such as the Municipality of Obiliq and the Municipality of Fushë Kosova.

Many of the municipalities in the Pristina region have taken initiatives to create municipal enterprises that manage waste.
