Security Committee agrees to send KSF to Gaza

The decision is expected to take final form in Friday's plenary session, while MPs from both camps have described this step as evidence of the increase in Kosovo's security capacities and international role.

The deployment of the Kosovo Security Force to Gaza received the green light from the Security Affairs Committee on Tuesday.

Vetëvendosje MP, Shqipe Mehmeti-Selimi, has said that KSF soldiers are ready to be involved in peacekeeping missions anywhere in the world.

"We are truly at a stage where we should be proud of the achievements of our army, the Kosovo Security Force, which is now ready to be a dignified partner alongside the United States of America and its allies, in a peace mission in Gaza," she said.

Democratic Party MP, Rrahman Rama, has called the involvement of the KSF in peacekeeping missions in the Middle East an extraordinary achievement for the country. 

He has requested that the state take care of the soldiers who will go to Gaza.

"Their well-being and their treatment during the mission there is very important. We are certainly in favor of creating conditions, the best possible conditions for them to carry out their duties and mission on the basis of the laws. Who would have thought that we would reach that stage where we are not consumers of security, but its producers, which is an extraordinary achievement," Rama declared.

And Democratic League MP, Fadil Hadërgjonaj, said that this mission proves the preparation of Kosovo soldiers. 

"It is an extraordinary event that highlights the professionalism, preparation and achievements of the Kosovo Security Force, who have truly consistently, both individually and as teams in various competitions and training sessions, made us proud," said Hadërgjonaj.

After approval by the committee, the agreement will be put to a vote in Friday's plenary session.

At the end of March, the government submitted to Parliament the agreement to send KSF members to Gaza. 

Minister of Defense, Ejup Maqedonci, had stated that the request for the KSF to join the International Stabilization Force is based on the invitation from the United States Central Command, the political will expressed in the Peace Board, and the law on sending the KSF abroad.
