Deputy Director of Police for the Northern Region, Veton Elshani, said that the operation conducted on Tuesday passed without incident. "We assisted the Ibër-Lepenc officials to enter a facility on Lake Ujman," Elshani said. Serbia immediately reacted
Kosovo Police have provided assistance to officials of the Ibër-Lepenci public enterprise in the north of the country, to enter a facility near Lake Ujman, which was suspected of being used by a parallel institution in Serbia.
The Deputy Director of Police for the northern region, Veton Elshani, said that the operation conducted on Tuesday passed without incident.
"We assisted Iber-Lepenc officials to enter a facility on Lake Ujman," he said.
The director of the office for Kosovo in the Government of Serbia, Petar Petkovic, reacted to this action, saying that he would inform the international community about it.
Petkovic said that this is a facility that has been used "exclusively for the training of children and participants in Red Cross courses, training in the field of first aid and rescue, various sports competitions, training and lectures, accommodation of tourists and athletes who stayed in this part of Kosovo."
"A large number of police officers entered the facility, where they conducted investigations, and did not allow anyone, not even the guard, to accompany them during the investigations, which leaves room for manipulation by Kurti's phalanx," he said in a press release.
The Serbian List, the largest Serb entity in Kosovo, has also reacted.
"The brutal intervention of Kosovo police units in the facility on Lake Gazivoda, which belongs to the Red Cross of Kosovo and Metohija, on the orders of Albin Kurti... constitutes a serious violation of all relevant international conventions," the party's response states.
Days ago, they took control of the National Employment Service building in North Mitrovica, and also closed the premises of the sports gym, the city museum, the Institute for Culture, Youth, Sports and Specialized Services, as well as the Kosovski Bozhur Cultural-Artistic Association.
The European Union has described the actions of the Kosovo authorities as unilateral and dangerous for escalating the situation.
